Quotes

Underneath a list of quotes I have collected over the years is presented. Many of these are trojan horses containing wisdom and moral code concerning the interface of psychology and spirituality. Fasten your mental seatbelts and experience the oceanic depth of these timeless aphorisms – they are true poetry of the soul. Some of them are in (old) Dutch; I didn’t translate them to prevent loss of information.

Jeshua (Jesus)

Mattheus 7:13-14

Buddha

Better than worshiping gods is obedience to the laws of righteousness.

There are only two mistakes one can make along the road to truth; not going all the way, and not starting.

The only real failure in life is not to be true to the best one knows.

Holding onto anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.

Udanavarga 33:13

‘’Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumoured by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.’’

Bhagwan Sri Rajneesh (Osho)

Courage is a love affair with the unknown.

To avoid pain, they avoid pleasure. To avoid death, they avoid life.

Truth is not something to be discovered outside, it is something to be realised within.

Love is not about possession, it’s about appreciation.

“The word courage is very interesting. It comes from a Latin root cor, which means “heart”. So to be courageous means to live with the heart. And weaklings, only weaklings, live with the head; afraid, they create security of logic around themselves. Fearful, they close every window and door—with theology, concepts, words, theories—and inside those closed doors and windows, they hide. The way of the heart is the way of courage. It is to live in insecurity; it is to live in love, and trust; it is to move in the unknown. It is leaving the past and allowing the future to be. Courage is to move on dangerous paths. Life is dangerous, and only cowards can avoid the danger—but then, they are already dead. A person who is alive, really alive, vitally alive, will always move into the unknown. There is a danger there, but he will take the risk. The head is a businessman. She always calculates – she is smart. The heart never calculates anything.”

Muhammad (prophet of Islam)

You are meant to create happiness for yourself, and for others, as a by-product.

The degree of joy you feel is proportionate to the degree of presence you have in that moment.

You have the unity of this entire universe on your side. Call upon its unbeatable forces by believing in yourself, against all ods and reason.

Nothing ‘out there’ can affect your state of being, unless you want it or believe it should.

If it feels bad it’s not true.

If what you think you want is what you truly want, then there are no obstacles.

Silcence is more than the absence of words.

If you really want it, you have it.

See everything around you as a part of yourself.

Keep an open mind, but don’t attach.

When you judge another, you don’t define them, you define yourself.

Loving people live in a loving world. Hostile people live in a hostile world. Same world.

Neville Goddard

Truth depends upon the intensity of the imagination, not on facts.

Assumptions, if persisted in, it will harden into facts. It doesn’t matter if at the present moment, external facts deny the truth of your assumption, if you persist in your assumption, it will become a fact.

Hold fast to your noble inner convictions or conversations. Nothing can take them from you, but yourself. Nothing can stop them from becoming objective facts.

Your ideal is waiting to be incarnated.

Choose life. The conditions and circumstance of life are not created by some power external to yourself. They are the conditions which result from the exercise of your freedom of choice.

The mouth of god, is the mind of man.

The mind always behaves according to the assumption with which it starts. Therefore, we must life on the level of imagination itself. This must be consciously and deliberately undertaken.

I can only say that my work has proved empirically that the pattern of God exists in every man and that this pattern has at its disposal the greatest of all his energies for transformation and transfiguration of his natural being. Ramakrishna

That knowledge which purifies the mind and heart alone is true knowledge, all else is only a negation of knowledge.

The winds of grace are always blowing, but you have to raise the sail.

When the flower blooms, the bees come univited.

Knowledge leads to unity, but ignorance to diversity.

The goal of human life is the realisation of the Ultimate Reality which alone can give man supreme fulfilment and everlasting peace.

Happiness is your nature. It is not wrong to desire it. What is wrong is seeking it outside when it is inside.

Mind is conciousness which has put on limitations. You are originally unlimited and perfect. Later you take on limitations and become the mind.

You need not aspire for or get any new state. Get rid of your present thoughts, that is all.

My own quotes

Life brings to a human that which is necessary to learn at that moment.

A shining spirit needs a strong mind and a fit body.

How you perceive the external world is a reflection of who you are. If you don’t accept or love everything that is outside of you, you don’t accept or love yourself to the fullest. Work from the inside out.

You can’t suppress or isolate anything in life. If you do so it will hit you in the form of destiny sooner or later. Therefore, work on integration instead of segregation.

Being free and joyful is your birth-right. You are not responsible for dealing with the problems of others. Though, you can choose for this if you want to.

Misery and psychedelic medicine have been my greatest spiritual teachers.

Don’t grieve for the inevitable.

Whether you are looking to end suffering or to find fulfilment in life, just turn your senses inward. The answer to everything is inside.

If you behave properly and someone else is unkind to you, then the problem lies with the other person and not with you.

People buy who you are and not what you say.

Honesty safes yourself and others so much time.

The mind is not going to bring you fulfilment – fulfilment comes from the heart. Use the mind to let the heart find its way safely and effectively.

Except for the exact sciences, there exist no absolute rationality. Rationality and substantiation are a result of your mood or your point of view. Therefore, focus on the feeling or mood on which the substantiation is based.

Intuition vs thinking is like magic versus logic. What do you prefer?

The inward journey is about making the subconcious concious.

Being talented for life can be expressed in traits like (self)-honesty, courage and openness.

Even the best teacher stays a student forever.

The highest form of human intelligence is to NOT think and to see things as they are.

The mind is a highly intelligent entity. Though, mankind has been imprisoned by the mind – we got enslaved by it. It’s time to show the mind who is boss.

Allow your intuition to be your truest guide in life. Everyone innately possesses this sacred gift. Therefore, you don’t cultivate your intuition. It’s a process of gaining trust and ripping out the weeds that blur its wisdom. Follow your excitement, your natural interest, your desire – follow the breadcrumb trail.

It is not the pronounced words from the teacher that are learned. The student hears what is actual for him based on his current theme of life.

Truth wants to be known.

Whereas fact, agreements and scolar knowlegde can be understood, truth, love and authenticity can be felt.

The divine can only be experienced. The divine has nothing to do with belief.

True pain comes from leaving trauma unexposed rather than going through it’s recovery process.

Discipline and drive is a result of knowing what you want.

To let go off everything, only hold on to love, truth, honesty, integrity and authenticity.

Don’t resist, move along instead. Be like water.

If you improve the relationship with yourself, the relationship with the external world follows automatically.

A belief: assuming to know something. A seeker: refusing to believe anything you do not know.

Spirituality is based on all-inclusiveness – don’t try to separate or isolate anything from existence. Instead, be a holding space for everything that presents itself.

The only thing that is fixed in life is change. Therefore, don’t try to control the waves – be te best surfer instead.

Don’t neglect the power of asking questions. They change our focus (direction of energy), the way we feel (emotional state), and therefore the way we experience life.

A spiritual teacher is not meant to provide the student ideology or philosophy of life. He should instead equip the student with confidence, personal freedom, knowledge and inspiration, and he should crack the mind open to the infinite possibilities, so that the student can carve his own path. A teacher creates independence, not dependence. A teacher creates leaders, not followers.

Be aware that all efforts we put into career, achievement, and chasing goals is meant, in the end, to simply ‘feel good’. Feeling good consists of experiencing love, happiness, joy/laughter, freedom, harmony. Try to be direct in the search for feeling good and don’t bypass too much.

Nothing has meaning except for the meaning you give it – there is no absolute meaning to life events. Language constructs a reality in our minds – by naming or labelling something, we don’t know what that something truly is. To conclude; mankind is delusional. Choose a delusion that serves you, one that empowers you.

Energies speak louder than words.

True freedom is obedience – obedience to only the signs and symbols of life.

Silence vocalises everything.

True psychological sanity, balance and confidence can only be attained by going to the depths of one’s psyche. In fact, this never-ending path of confronting one’s shadowside is what I call growth, healing and completion.

Courage trust and love are necessary ingredients for the inward journey.

If you want to heal physical diseases, first remove emotional, physical, sexual, spiritual blockages, as well as dogma’s and limiting beliefs.

The evil, the bad and the sad are part of our existance. Don’t externalise, disown or reject this side of yours. Embrace it by shining your light on it. Full self-acceptance leads to balance and a content mind.

Socialisation, the phenomenon that we want to belong to a group, comes at a cost. We deny, disown, externalise or reject the personality traits the group doesn’t value, which consequently leads to partial self-acceptance.

Tragic contrasts are part of psychological- and spiritual growth. Ecstasy and terror, peak and abyss, the mystic temple and the hall of doom – contrast abides in harmony.

Before letting go comes allowance. Letting go is active, allowance is passive.

You see what you belief is true.

If knowledge doesn’t attain more inner freedom or fulfillment, it only confuses.

The life you have is what you (sub)conciously think you deserve. You have wealth and abundance to the degree of which you allow it in your life.

When I am curious about someone’s quality of life, I don’t ask for someone’s achievements anymore. I rather look for someone’s self-acceptance, inner peace, contentment, appreciation, and the ability to love oneself no matter the circumstances.

The problem with humanity is the ego. Our ego innately creates internal struggles, resistance, and only partial acceptance of oneself. It prevents us from being, that is to say, living here and now without thought, judgement or the urge to escape.

An ego (an identity) creates movement, i.e. wanting to go from here to there. To fully abide in the now/ to fully accept the present moment, start to decompose the ego.

The main drivers of the ego are moving away from pain and moving towards pleasure.

Mankind madly whirls in circles when it comes to the search for happiness.

Power to the peaceful.

If you hold judgement towards life or creation at large other than appreciation and perfection means that you haven’t seen it’s full complexity/totality.

All that you search for in the external world can be found within much quicker.

My quotes on LOVE:

Love heals everything.

Self-love will auto-correct all the problems of the world.

Love doesn’t expect, calculate, or think.

The language all humans speak is love.

All evil, hatred, violence and ignorance comes from a lack of love.

Love is the recognition of oneself in the other. Love is identification. Thus, only Self-love exists.

The most evolved human being is the one who can give and receive the most love.

I enter some people by talking about my achievement, I enter other people by talking intellectually, but most people I enter through the heart by simply radiating love.

Love is the perpetuating factor of the evolution of mankind. Each individual pursues love – rather subconsciously than consciously – and that is how we meander through life.

If you teach very intellectually/ conceptually, you apply to those who are developed enough. If you teach from love, you apply to those who are courageous enough to be vulnerable and receptive.

Unconditional love is already available. You just have to be humble enough to open the shower. You don’t cultivate unconditional love – you just have to peel of the layers. Unconditional love is our nature.
